Sunday afternoon stroll

If you happen to visit Pamplona, you will find that nearly everything shuts down on Sundays. It's nice. No crowds or stores open, little traffic and quiet.

With not much happening one Sunday, I thought I'd just wander around for a few hours. The temperature was in the high 80's with a gentle breeze making things bearable.

Part of the old city wall and fortress.
To cover this would be a whole article and slideshow. Pamplona's walls are almost entire and well kept up.

From where I had my room, I could easily get onto Avenida de Zaragoza, which heads into the old town center. It's about a 20 minute walk and you cross another main road, Avenida de Baja Navarra, onto Av. de San Ignacio.

There are some fountains spread around. This one changes it's spray. I crossed Baja Navarra here, well went around a large traffic circle and continued on.

Av. de San Ignacio ends at a Plaza Castillo, in the center. There I bought an ice cream and meandered along a part of the Camino de Santiago. I veered off after a while and walked a section of the old city wall.

Eventually I arrived at the big park containing the remains of the fortress. I doubt I saw more than half a dozen people. A shaded spot provided seating for my lunch break. Following that I crossed the park to walk back to where I'm staying. Then had a nap.

It was good to just quietly stroll about and relax.
